Abstract

The NOAA Restoration Center has been working cooperatively with other natural resource trustees and partners to restore for the damage caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. This work benefits natural resources, communities that depend on these natural resources for life and livelihood, and the general public. NOAA is the lead federal trustee for coastal and marine natural resources, including marine and migratory fish, mesophotic and deep benthic communities, endangered species regulated by NOAA, marine animals, and their habitats, which also occur outside of the Gulf of Mexico region. An interactive display will allow for the exploration of some of this work through story maps, web stories, videos, and websites. There are several videos of the Oceanic Fish Restoration Project, an innovative, voluntary, temporary and non-regulatory effort to use bycatch reduction as a tool to restore pelagic fish, featuring voices from the fishing, scientific, and restoration communities.
