Abstract
Aquaculture is currently considered by the Ministry of Agriculture to be a means of agricultural diversification, income enhancement and import substitution. Efforts have been made by the State to develop the industry through farmer education, infraestructural change, drafting of legislation and the provision of technical services. The strategies employed have been designed to meet the unique conditions present in a small, developing island state. The benefits derived from aquaculture are measuredby both economic and social parameters.
