Abstract
This paper is an analysis of the results of seven fishing trips to determine the potential fishery for squid using japanese pots, semiautomatic and manual netting and through light attraction during the months of May through October in 1997 in the Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico, principally the contintental platform of the Yucatán. The purpose was to determine the potential for establishing a new fishery based upon rational and economically sustainable exploitation of the resource. The authors participated on seven fishing trips, averaging 30 days in duration and 254 catches with minimum yield of 300 kg (Trip 1) and a maximum yield of 15,230 kg (Trip 6), based on a scale of size classification of G.G. 35 cm or more a 4P 10 cm or less) or the number of examples from a 10 kg tray (GG of 35 to 50 individuals and 4P, of 180 to 200). The total yield for the seven trips was 49,230 kg.
