Abstract
While taking “Fundamentals of Lawyering, during my presentation, we discussed the “Art“ of lawyering. I am unsure if Lawyering is an Art, as we are still a service industry and while being a lawyer could be a form of “Art, “ it should not be. An artist cannot protect justice (considering the symbol of a lady who is blindfolded), but a lawyer can and should. Therefore, no matter the stance of popular media, lawyers are still part of a highly valuable service industry. From my experiences at Perkins Coie LLP (America’s leading law firm for international regulatory and transactional law), Shook Hardy and Bacon (America’s leading trial law firm) and with trial court Judge Baskin (Martinez, California), I can say that most, if not all, lawyers think Lawyering is a form of Art. It may be. Despite this commonly held assertion, this paper sets out to establish that lawyering should not in fact be an art form. Why? Simply because you cannot hire a lawyer on Amazon (at least as of now) or any social media platforms (again, as of now). We need more lawyers that are concerned about our planet earth, environment, the greens and the oceans, the fishes and the seas. With that, it is my honor to apply for this award and I look forward to our professional association.
