Abstract
Eigtheen species of macroparasites (Monogenea 1, Digenea 8, Cestoda 2, Nematoda 5, Acanthocephala 1, Copepoda I) were found in 105 red groupers examined from 7 localities. The most frequent and abundant species were the monogenean Pseudorhabdosynochus yucatanensis, the nematode Philometra margolisi and the copepod Hatschekia serrana. These three species are specialists of the red grouper and they represent 53.97% of the total number of macroparasites. Therefore, it was considered that phylogenetic factors have strong influence upon the macroparasite community structure of this host.
