Abstract
The little tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus) from the Campeche Bank is a coastal resource exploited using gillnets and occasionally hooks and lines. Catch is regulated by its seasonal availability and also by accessibility to exploitation of other demersal species with higher commercial value. At present, information related to the population dynamics and fishery aspects is lacking. Thus, objective of the present study is to show a description of the fishery located in the Northeast of Campeche Bank area in terms of fleet features, catch and effort between 1984 and 1990. Population dynamics parameters based on the length composition of the catches are given, with special reference to biometric relationships, individual growth and recruitment pattern. Seasonal variations of catches catch per unit of effort (CPUE), effort and prices are analyzed, and the significance of the relationship between them is discussed.
