Abstract

In the Yucatán State coast, hog fish Lachnolaimus maximus, is associated with grouper fisheries and holds a high economical impact due to its high demand. Due to fact that most of the fisheries are in over-exploited status, a promotional fishery for this specie is suggested. Promotional Fishery is mainly an investigation oriented one, in order to know several biological aspects of a sea resource, on which an institution or fishing cooperative obtains permission to exploit a resource with the sole compromise of hiring a scientific investigator to run a research project, naming him as responsible for it. The same equipment used in the spiny lobster fishery Panulirus argus, through the use of semi-autonomous diving (hooka), can be utilised on the Hog fish fishery. The following investigation project, it’s a bio-fishery research, with the ultimate objective of determining integral bases for Hog fish with the use of promotional fisheries as a way to reach sustainable management, and the adoption of a precautory consideration for this fishery. It is well know that this resource is exploited by diving techniques only, because it is never seen by line and hook techniques and holds no restriction such as: quota, minimal size, or prohibition. The general purpose is to generate basic knowledge about their biology, ecology, poblational dynamics of the resource, and with two primary objectives; to gather up sufficient evidence in order to evaluate the actual status of this fishery and the possibility of obtaining responsibly and sustainable management for it.
