Abstract
Fishing with traps has been traditional in the Caribbean for many years. Fish traps are universally applied in all cultures and seem to have been independently invented many times. According to Munro et al., (1971) fish traps made of native materials have probably been used for centuries. In this poster we review the literature and try to describe the origin of the fish traps in the Caribbean region its application in the different areas and the impact of this gear in the implementation of fishing regulations in the region
