Abstract
During the fishing season of 2005, in the fishing grounds known as “Bajos Nortes, Bancos Ingleses and Cayo Arenas” off the coast of the state of Yucatan, Mexico, three different traps design were used, they are known as Antillean, Floridean and Japanese spiny lobster traps, in each one three different types of bait were used, grouper heads, fish ray and fresh cattle skin. Experimental design were based on ANOVA, the result showed that there were a significant differences between trap and bait (P<0.01). There was not significant difference between the Antillean and Floridean either using fish ray or fresh cattle skin as a bait. This study suggest that the Japanese type were more efficient using grouper heads as a bait followed by the cattle skin
