Abstract
Catches of Melongena corona bispinosa, is an important fishery for the Chelem lagoon, Yucatan. These organisms represent a subsistence strategy for numerous families. In this community, women and children and older people are dedicated to the fisheries. When fishermen can not go to fish to the sea, they go to fish M. Corona. Catch represents a mean of 3 kg/day/individual and 40 - 54 tons/year of live weight with a value of $ 145 454.00 to $227 272.00 dollars. Despite the commercially and social value of this organism, it is not regulated by management measures. In this study, growth parameters and mortality were estimated in cultivated organism of Melongena corona bispinosa, in order to make a reference data with measures form field.
