Abstract
A study was performed on the frequency distribution, morphometric relations and conditions indices of the body components in an adult population of the milk conch, Strombus costatus. The study area was at Dzilam de Bravo, Yucatan, Mexico. The .sample period was monthly from April to October, 1988. ; In this populations, length was 16 to 2S cm, lip-thickness varied from 1 to 28 mm, and foot weight ranged from 4S to 19S g. Body components were compared with total wet weight of the conch and tissue weights. Variations of condition indices were analyzed in relation to reproductive season. Wet weight of foot and tissues were highly correlated with length, and total wet weight with shell wet weight. Lip-thickness was the only good estimator of shell weight. The sex ratio was 2 females for each male. Females were larger than males by 1.5% length and 3.7% weight.
