Abstract

It is done an historic account, describing zones, fishing gears and fishing results from an artisanal fishery which present X. gladius as a target species, and from industrial fishery which obtain this species incidentally. The paper compare some results from Eastern Atlantic and from Cuban Economic Zone. Each fishery have its own periodicity and fhishing results, but the abundance is by far highest in the east, which would be in relation with the levels of primary productivity.
