Abstract

The session was coordinated by the UNEP-CEP Caribbean MPA Network and Forum (CaMPAM) in conjunction with the GCFI Program. Thanks to the support of several organizations, and in particular, UNEP-CEP (through the project "Regional support for the Caribbean Challenge initiative: Networking, consolidation and regional coordination of MPA management" funded by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (through the Capacity Building Assessment project), ca. 20 MPA managers the MPA Science and Practice Session and other sessions and parallel workshops addressing issues such as sustainable financing and lionfish management. This presentation aimed at summarizing the geographic coverage and topics of the papers presented, the new topics addressed and a brief consultation on the potential topics for the next MPA Science and Practice Session of the 2012 GCFI conference. Seven papers were presented from locations ranging from the islands of Jamaica, USVI, St. Lucia and Grenada to the SE coast of Mexico.
