Abstract
Fishing gears and fishing techniques of large pelagic fishes, noticed recently all around Martinique, are presented in this communication which presents most of the observations related to this kind of exploitation, published by the authors in 1997 in a synthetical work concerning all the types of gears and fishing techniques of the island. In fact, in view of managing these shared stocks on a regional scale, it is necessary to have the most accurate knowledge as possible of the different components of the fishery and about the level of its exploitation. The technical aspects and designs of gears are presented according 10 FAO standards. These gears and techniques are mainly hooks and lines : bottom set longlines, drifting longlines (including drifing lines) and trolling lines.
