Abstract

A spotted lobster, Panulirus laevicauda, 950 g and 28 cm, was catch at 25 m deep front Guyana coast. Once in the Instituto de Investigaciones Científicas (Venezuela), the lobster was maintained in an 8,000 1 tank with seawater. After five days, spontaneous spawn was detected. The phyllosoma larvae were collected and rearing in a 1.800 L tank with seawater, at 37 ppt and 21" C, using the standard shrimp larvae rearing system. The larvae were rearing at 25 ind/l feeding on the microalgae ChaRtoceros gracilis (50.000 cells/ml), for 27 days. Every day some larvae were collected and its description was done. The development of the larvae is described. Moreover, it was evident the possibility of culture this species, mainly in relation of the broodstock management and larvae condition rearing. Likewise it is appointed some modifications lo be made from shrimp larvae culture system for lobster larvae reanng.
