Abstract
Egg masses, larval development, growth. settlement and survival were studied for larvae of Strombus pugilis over a period of 30 days in laboratory cultures. Temperature culture was 29 ± I’ C. the veligers were reared at a density of 200 larvae per litre. into 4-litre tanks. Larvae were fed Tetraselmis suecica at a concentration o f 1,000 cells/ml. Total number of eggs was calculated. Larval number was counted after batching per each egg mass. Egg-strand diameter, eggs capsule diameter. number of eggs per mass. number of eggs per coil of the strand were evaluated. Average number eggs per mass was 240.000. Average growth rate was 20.01 µm/day and maximum shell length was 1,000 µm 30 days after hatching. Settlement was 23% and the survival was 17%.
