Abstract
The feeding regime of Xiphias gladius was studied in 114 specimens caught on board of long line commercial vessels that operated in the Caribbean Sea from January to December 1993. The minimum size of specimens studied was 68 cm LJFL and the maximum 224 cm. The dressed weight was between 1,4 and 120 kg. The analyses of the stomach contents, using the methods of the frequency of occurrence and numeric occurrence, indicated that the diet consisted primarily of fish, cephalopods and crustacean. The most representative teleost families in the stomach content of the sword fish were Bramidae, Dactylopteridae and Cupleidae. The repletion index indicated that captured specimen had a semi-full condition (1,23).
