Abstract

The marketing of fresh fish in Spain, is organized and managed by the Cofradías of fishermen, being the fish market the physical place where that economic activity takes place. This study examined the current status of the dutch auction of the fishing harbor of Palamós for 2006, with the aim of seeing the contributions of the sales system in this harbor of origin, for the case of small-fisheries in Venezuela. Described as organized and structured the sale of fresh fish in this auction, using the dutch auction model, considering the advantages and disadvantages of the model. Auction was a catch of 2,406,390.64 Kg, and was a gross total of 10,803,395.2 €, with the months of June, July and August which showed the highest values in income. There were found 3 kinds of buyers in the auction: wholesaler, retail and restoration; their behavior was changing according to the target species; so a buyer can have a wholesaler behavior for a sorted species but not for another one. The power of concentration of purchase was measured with the indices of concentration: (C4, C8 and HHI). Besides it described the current status of the marketing of fresh fish in Venezuela and is considering applying the auction system in the northeastern region of Venezuela, with the largest fleet of landing craft in the country are made in this area due to: biotic, social, cultural, geographic location, etc.. that permits this is the best area to start the implementation of a business process more advanced.
