Abstract
The objective of this study was classification of a. Landsat - TM image to determine reef bottom types, identify spatial patterns related with the distribution and cover of the organisms present in this ecosystem. In order to describe spectral classes, we propose a classification system compatible with the field verification method. In this system we included the organisms biological forms, aggregation and cover, instead of their taxonomic relationships. Data were analyzed at two levels to determine the cover discrimination with the image analysis method practiced.
