Abstract

This article summarizes the preliminary results obtained as of August 2004 in the implementation of the technique for the culture of the caracol pala in the laboratory at the Rosario Islands (Natural National Park Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo) Colombian Caribbean. The phases of the collection of mass of eggs, incubation, larvicultivo, metamorphosis and raise of juveniles were successfully implemented. By the end of the reproductive season of the caracol pala (mid December), we produced 120 juveniles of 1 cm of siphon length. These individuals have been maintained in the laboratory until reaching a size of 5 cm in seven months. The culture of the Caracol pala is the first step towards the restoration of the populations of this species through the re-population with juvenile produced in the laboratory of the PNN Corales del Rosario.
