Abstract
Effective June 1, 2008, all commercial and recreational fishermen fishing for reef fish in U.S. federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico were required to have onboard, a dehooking device, venting tool and non-stainlss steel circle hooks when using natural baits to catch reef fishes. The intent of these new regulations is to reduce bycatch and discard mortality of reef fish that are caught and not kept.
