Abstract

In the state of Quintana Roo the north and centre zone are closed to conch fishing because they are overexploited. The south zone includes a closed season, fishing quota, it is prohibited to dive with compressor (hooka) or SCUBA ? only skin dive. Today, mariculture is an alternative to replenish the resource in concert with fishery regulations. One phase of the mariculture for brood stock conch to provide egg masses using enclosed areas. The purpose of this work is to quantify the structure dense-dependent that control the reproduction in enclosures areas with adult conchs of the species Strombus costatus (Gmelin). The experimental design consisted of two variables (area and male: female ratios) with areas from 20 and 40 m2 and relations male:female of: 2:5, 2: 10, 2:15 respectively with two replicas, getting 12 units experimental within total area of 360 m2. The results represent a study period from May to August; about the total production of the enclosures areas were 521 egg masses and around 102 millions of larvae. The relation sexe male: female 2:15 into the area 20 m2 has been the best phase with 145 egg masses and an estimated 27 million larvae.
